It wasn't a huge hit, and we weren't expecting it to break the hundred-million mark(though that would be nice), we are very happy our audiences at least helped it return the money spent on it. Even Stark said in his interview that he's not a fan of everything being hits. It's always refreshing to see something that doesn't have a dude running around in tights saving the world all the time.
We just received a pitch from another CMP author, Chad Taylor. We loved the idea and thought it fit into the Grand Island mold. Both Chad and Matt Kubrick must have seen enough Fox Searchlight films to know what kind of studio we ripped off...er...forget that haha.
Our biggest hits were Dream of a King, Lyra and A Man Called Dan. Most of the others were dramas that didn't make too much of a box office and very few were flops. We have faith that Chad and Matt's films will add to the success of both CMP and Grand Island Entertainment.
Remember, if you have a film looking for a producer, show it to us. It doesn't have to be an uber dramatic movie, just something that's independent from the usual hollywood/cmp films. When you see Searchlight, you'll know the kind of films they produce. They've produced everything from Little Miss Sunshine, Notes on a Scandal, Last King of Scotland, Secret Life of Bees to Sunshine, I Think I Love My Wife, [500] Days of Summer and Sunshine Cleaning.
It can also be an animated film or a horror. We love seeing animated films that don't just target to kids and families. '9' was the most recent animated film that stepped out of the norm of kid films.
Since we've been working with Kubrick for a while, be sure to ask him to produce your film for his company, Midnight Movies. You've seen enough films out of that studio to see which ones will get picked up.
Anyway, congratulations for a successful release, Fireflies! We are now anticipating I Married A Supervillain!

We're jumping on the Stephen King bus now
We recently pitched a film based on a Stephen King story! CMP is no stranger to the legendary writer(famously the Dark Tower series) and this film just has Collins' name on it: a child in peril.
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, a story that was actually supposed to be given a hollywood film adaptation direted by George A. Romaro but was put on the shelf. Josh Collins has since taken it down and dusted it off to write the screenplay. A girl is lost in the woods and fights for survival and her sanity. She wanders deep into the woods, gets sick while being stalked by a mysterious entity she dubs: God of the Lost.

Fireflies and Supervillains and Aliens and Killers: Oh My!
Our first release of the season is finally out. Fireflies in the Jelly-Jars with a very well done official poster. We are proud of the cast and James Mangold making it work. We don't expect it getting box office results and if the critics have something nice to say about it, perhaps they can look at the outstanding direction of James and the performances of Abigail, Daniel and Logan. Robin and Jeffrey's roles are rather small to really pay much attention to.
James had some impressive camera shots and the scenes with the fireflies were so nice to look at.
Abigail hated the dog being killed. Of course, no animals were harmed in the making of the film, but she's an avid animal supporter so her real anger towards the abuse of animals fueled her performance in those moments.
Good luck, Fireflies! Hope you get a good reception!
--------------------------------------------------------
The cast is set for I Married The Super-villain. Brendan Fraser, Ashley Judd, Jeff Bridges, Cameron Bright and Ryan Simpkins. This means that next week will be the wide release.
Brendan has become a big star in CMP. His hit-list is huge, so we hope with the star power and action behind it that it will be our next money making blockbuster. Jeff Bridges' impressive work as Obadiah in Iron Man last year earned him the opportunity to be a villain in this film.
--------------------------------------------------------
Earth 3K is our next science fiction film. Collins likes aliens, so he took a bit of care into this upcoming blockbuster hopeful. In a way, it's X-Men-like with the mutants living among humans, some are bad and want humans exterminated while the good believe mutants and humans can co-exist. But it's aliens and there really isn't a huge group like X-Men. Earth 3K is the first film in the series, focusing on the parents of our future hero and the major conflict that would go into the next films. We already have the sequel pitched, but the third one is waiting for the idea to flow.
---------------------------------------------------------
Goldmine Killers is filming quite nicely. It's a thriller but the style is very film noir. Collins as taken film courses and a few classes defined film noir as featuring 'femme fatales, nobody really wins in the end, a detective-like character(doesn't have to be a professional detective), dark settings, somebody wants their lover murdered and pays someone else to do it, etc' the film 'Double Indemnity' is a perfect example of the classic film noir.
Angela would be the Femme Fatale, a trophy-wife wanting her husband whose 40 years older than her killed for access to his wealth. She basically puts a bounty on her husbands head, and hires the men who want it. They have their own agendas, but is Angelina really just using the men to do her dirty work for her? The husband's grown kids are the "detectives" who have a hunch of what their step mother is up to. They find themselves in deeper when they investigate and fight for their lives as well as their father's life.
The word "Goldmine" of course is taken from the phrase 'sitting on a goldmine' or someone whose extremely wealthy.
We are anticipating the release for this one. Could be a hit with the audiences, critics and awards.
Nothing on HBO this week. So go out to the movies or rent something!

Thanks to everyone who participated in our poll. We are happy to see everyone voting on all sides. Makes us feel good about decisions of our cast...that is if Affleck gets the part. We might have someone else in line just in case.
It's been such a long time since Goldmine Killers has been pitched that we almost forgot the cast and plot to it. It's exciting!

Thanks to all for their participation in the polls. I Married the Supervillain came in as the winner of last week's poll. Not by much though, so it'll be interesting to see how the films do in the box office and reception with such a neck-in-neck poll. I figured Supervillain would be the winner. It's got the action to boot. Fireflies is a Collins' trademark dramatic character study. As the film gets closer to release(the cast list doesn't have much at all left to be announced) filming has wrapped up and is ready for release. The trailers for both films are being seen in theaters. However, Supervillain is on practically every movie you'll see in one theater, whereas Fireflies is only in a few "little" movies.
We've also got our first draft of casts and plot of our Elvis biopic sent to the big cheese, Harry Stark. Any issues with it we'll discuss. The look of the film plays two stories in one film. You have the young hip rock star boy that is Elvis, and the older, fatter, shell of his former self, up until the two stories converge into one for the big finale. Both roles are played by two different actors.
We don't want to reveal the cast or director until we reach a final decision on whose playing who. If you know your stuff about Elvis, you'll know the plot, like 'Dream of a King' and 'The Experience' it works hard to cover just about every detail about Presley's life.
Interesting enough, we've actually pitched a sequel to 'Fantastic Mansion' but with a different cast, storyline and location. If it ever gets picked up and put into production(we know the wait list is long) we're looking forward to seeing how that will go. Universal Studios, Six Flags and Disney are at a bidding war for the rights to the "Fantastic" series to put as rides in their parks. The new Fantastic is said to take place on an island full of mythical and extinct creatures. Josh Collins loves dinosaurs and wants them in more of his films.
Speaking of such, we are getting a much larger division for animated or kid-friendly films. Babes in Toyland, Bird of the Feather, Woodland Creatures, Fantastic Mansion: they're all only getting better in terms of box office and quality. We're making so many of those films now that we're thinking of expanding our studio into having a department. Much like Dreamworks' animation studio. But instead of just having them animated, we're trying to form the division to appeal to families but without having something gay go along with it like: 'Grand Island Movies Family'
We are always looking to produce films. Like I said before, we have a major partnership with Matt Kubrick, whose been thrilled with the success of Foul Karma for his independent studio, Midnight Movies. But we're always looking for more producing partnerships. Inquire your film idea to Josh Collins on the CMMDB board. Be sure to pitch your idea to Harry Stark though, Grand Island won't pitch your idea for you, we'll just back up the producing.
Our films on TV this week is small. Killer on the Road and Lying Wish are our only HBO features.

The Search for Elvis
We are looking for the best person to play Elvis. They may have to change their appearance and voice to match Elvis' famous 'thank you..thank you very much' singlng voice but so far all we have for suggestions is Ben Affleck. We here at Grand Island actually LIKE Ben Affleck and wouldn't mind putting him in the film, but with his reputation among moviegoers as a 'shitty actor' could it be possible? Please take the new poll and let us know if Ben could play the King of Rock and Roll.

We're honored to announce a major partnership with fellow screenwriter, Matt Kubrick. He has made several pitches to us asking to produce his films and we've taken them all. There's not much we are allowed to legally say about the films, but they do have the Grand Island touch.
We've been busy getting most of the Abbie/Daniel scenes in Fireflies out of the way. Jeffrey/Robin scenes have also begun filming. They share most of their screen time together. Poor Abbie's had to work the most out of all of them.
I Married the Supervillain is doing a fine job promoting itself. A cell phone company is giving a lucky married couple or soon-to-be married couple a honeymoon or second honeymoon(for those with a refreshening up of their marriage) to the location of the shooting. All they have to do is text a word to a phone number and pray to their lucky stars they get the victory.
Be sure to check your local listings as many of the stars of these two upcoming films will be making appearances on talk shows to promote their respective films, tell random stories. Ashley Judd will be making an appearance on Conan O Brien. She'll share with him how good it feels to be back in a CMP film. Abigail will be making a brief chat with Martha Stewart.
Don't take your eyes off the movie channels on television. We've been noticing a lot of Grand Island/CMP films popping up on HBO/Cinemax/Showtime whatever. The movies being aired this week from our head cheese:
Lyra, Blink, Dream of a King, Five Thunderbolts, 72 Hours and Paternal Nightmare.
Speaking of releases, we've released all of last season's DVDs. Relive the horror of Foul Karma, the obscurity of Woodland Creatures, the intimacy of Weigh Anchor, the action and adventure of Zelda II, the drama of United I Stand and the quirkiness of Check, Please. DVD artwork and special features will be added at a later date.
Take the poll too!

We're baaaaaaaaaack
As CMP returns, so does Grand Island Movies. We're proud to announce that we have two movies in filming right now. One is specifically done by our production company. The other is done specifically for CMP that we hope to make our first official superhero blockbuster. It's a risky bet considering 'I'm Married to the Supervillain' isn't an adaptation of an established superhero franchise.
Look at how much 'Fireflies' star Abigail has grown!

Fireflies also stars Daniel Day Lewis as Abigail's very lovable always caring and compassionate dad.

Also be sure to check out the superhero action/comedy "I Married The Supervillain" about a happily married couple by day, costumed sworn arch-rivals by night. A Mr. and Mrs. Smith Superhero style.
